Riverdale

I am watching and really enjoying Riverdale on The CW. It is loosely based on The Archie comics using the characters as inspiration for an engaging story.

This first season has introduced all the main characters in some interesting ways. They are all recognizable as the characters from the comics with the same attributes, such as Jughead's hat and archie's red hair etc.
The main story line of the first season is the death of one Jason Blossom, captain of the football team.

Riverdale    season 1 Episode # 7 "In a Lonely Place"

Episode opens with Jughaed dreaming. In his dream they him and his friends all look like they do in the comics. He is staying at the school in a maintainence closet since the last place he was staying was shut down(the drive-in). Archie shows up and finds him and then Archie agrees to talk to his dad(Fred) about giving Jughead's dad (FP) another chance and hiring him back.
Fred agrees to give it a try. FP runs into Veronicas mom(Hermione) when he comes into work and asks her not to tell Fred about the Southside Serpents.
FP makes a big deal and a bit of a speech a couple of times about turning his life around and making a home again for his wife and two kids, Jughead and Jellybean. ........Seriously who named them...... Unfortunately you never really see him making more than siad speeches... his actions don't match his words... and we see throughout the episode that FP falls back into the alcoholism and is never truly there for Jughead. In fact Fred, Archie's dad is there for Jughead more in this episode.
Betty and Jughead get closer in this episode, a comforting hand on her shoulder, another kiss, walking her home, holding hands. they seem sweet together. Very cute.
It is overheard and texted to Cheryl(jason's twin sister) that Polly(betty's sister) has run away from the convent the same night that the car was found in flames. Cheryl goes and tells the sheriff and her mother and there is a hunt for Polly by both the Blossoms and the Coopers. There is even a confrontation between Betty's mom and Cheryl's mom. They hate each other. The feud between their families goes back a long time. The truth comes out that Polly is pregnant with Jason's baby. Her parents want her to give it up for adoption and Jason's parents who claim to want to help just want to take the baby because they believe that Polly would be an unfit mother.
Cheryl uncharacteristically wants to help Betty help Polly. Cheryl doesn't like what her parents are trying to do. Cheryl warns Polly to find some where safe to go. Veronica and her mom end up taking Polly in to live with them.

Jughead is arrested by the Sheriff. they found his prints on the car as well as Bettys but since Jughead has a history of arson and a bad history with the football team(he was Bullied). The Sheriff trys to make the case for revenge on the Captain of the football team. Fred, Archies dad, gives Jughead an alibi for the killing of Jason. Jughead is released and his father shows up drunk.... some help... Just like peviously when they went home and Jughead tried to talk to his dad and he passed out..... :-P

Also in this episode we see Veronica go clubbing with Josie, Kevin and Reggie. things are fun until her mom reports the credit card stolen. Veronica is doing this because she feels her mom took away the one thing that was hers... her name... when she forged her signature. They end up talking things out and for now seem to be on the same page.

Other things learned in this episode, the story of Fred and FP. We hear the story from both sides and with different details. It is hard not to sympathise with each side. But as Archie says when his dad told him I did all I could but I had to worry about my family I couldnt let us drown with FP.... Yeah but who was there to stop Jughead from drowning.

At the end of the episode we see Jason's jacket in Jughead's Dads closet...... WTH........

I enjoyed this episode a lot. It was nice to see Betty and Jughead be there for each other and have their friends be supportive of that budding relationship.

We get a glimpse into the reason that Fred and FP did the things that they did. It was nice to hear their story... we even got to hear both sides.  We feel geninue sympathy for FP and believe as he does that he wants to do better for his family and his son. We want him to succeed in that as much as he does. Unfortunately it is much harder than just saying you want to get clean. It was nice to find out that Jellybean is still alive and living with her mom and that they were doing well.

Cheryl isn't all bad. She has some feelings under that bitchy exterior. I loved how she was excited to hear that Polly was going to have Jason's baby.

It was nice to see more of Jughead's story. Sad that he's father is the way he is. Good that he has friends to support him.

Now the wait until March 30 for the next new episode.

Oh and so happy to hear about the renewal for a second season.
